Healthy and Happy Recovery After Childbirth

Healthy and Happy Recovery After Childbirth

Having a baby is a beautiful life-changing moment. We think we are well-prepared for the change and then we start experiencing a whole lot of things that nobody said anything about. Now what?

Rest, rest, rest.

We just brought another human into the world. Our body just went through the wringer. We need and deserve nothing but rest. Try to limit visitations and stay in bed with baby. Give yourself time to heal.

Ask for help

It takes a village to raise a child. This cannot be more true especially after childbirth when we are still weak and need assistance. Sometimes, something simple like getting help to wash baby’s bottles can make a world of a difference! Enlist daddy and grandparents to stock up on PETPET® Tape diapers and clean up baby’s messes so that his delicate skin stays fresh and dry all day.

Hydrate yourself constantly

Especially if you are breastfeeding, you are losing liquid every time you nurse. Try to take a few warm sips before you nurse and rehydrate again after you nurse each time. Water, milk, fruit juices and soups are excellent choices. It is helpful to have a bottle of water near your bed or breastfeeding couch.

Nourish yourself, nourish your baby

A balanced, nutrient-rich diet will ensure a healthy postpartum recovery and boost energy levels. Protein, calcium and iron will need replenishing after supporting your baby and while you breastfeed. These can be derived from red meat, chicken, eggs, tofu, milk, green leafy vegetables, cheese, yoghurt and many others. Limit junk foods.

Don’t compare

In these days of social media, it is easy to compare with some mothers who seem like they have it all together after giving birth. Why should we compare when we have different circumstances and different priorities?

Join support groups

Having a baby (or more) is not easy. Share your experience or read about others by joining supportive mommy groups on Facebook or in your neighbourhood. Plan a simple get together and talk it out. Sometimes, knowing that another mom is facing the same issue will make you realise that it is all a normal part of being a new mom.
